EC asks home ministry to take action against addl DIG Moniruzzaman

The Election Commission has issued directives to the Ministry of Home Affairs to take action against additional deputy inspector general of tourist police Md Moniruzzaman for violating the government service by participating in election activities.

A letter signed by EC deputy secretary Mizanur Rahman was sent to the senior secretary of the public security department of the home ministry on May 13.

 

EC additional secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath confirmed the matter.

According to the letter, Moniruzzaman was present in uniform with his brother while he was collecting the nomination paper form from the office of a political party for contesting in the by-election in the Jhenaidah-1 constituency that fell vacant.

The letter mentioned that DIG Moniruzzaman violated the government service rules.

The letter also asked the senior secretary to inform the EC of the action taken against the DIG.

The police officer was with his brother at the Awami League office on April 29 and submitted his brother’s nomination form.

His brother Wahiduzzaman, general secretary of Shailkupa Municipality Awami League unit, is the AL candidate for the by-election in Jhenaidah-1 seat.

The Jhenaidah-1 seat fell vacant following the demise of parliament member and district AL president Abdul Hai on March 16.

The by-election in this seat will be held on June 5.
